History of Soccer

There are statements that a ball game, similar to soccer, has been played 3000 years ago. In the Greek and Roman variants, teams could consist of up to 27 players. In 2nd and 3rd centuries BC the Chinese military played a similar game - the aim was to kick the ball into a small net. However, Britain remains the undisputed birthplace of modern soccer. It was a popular sport for the masses in Britain from the 8th century AD up until nowadays. However, it was a rather dangerous sport because hundreds of people took part in a single game and injuries were inevitable. That was the reason for several attempts to ban the game. But nothing could stop the people that loved soccer and the first world soccer competition was held in Uruguay in 1930.
