Rob Thomas - Ever The Same

Actually, I think this is one of the best songs I've EVER heard in my life so far. This song, though, is a wee bit underrated. I sooo love Rob Thomas and "EVER The Same" has been one of those songs that I find EVER so remarkable. Also, I love playing this on guitar but, of course, I wouldn't dare post the videos here. Haha! So here's the lyrics:

Rob Thomas - "Ever The Same"

We were drawn from the weeds
We were brave like soldiers
Falling down under the pale moonlight
You were holding to me
Like a someone broken
And I couldn't tell you but I'm telling you now

Just let me hold you while you're falling apart
Just let me hold you and we'll both fall down

Fall on me
Tell me everything you want me to be
Forever with you forever in me
Ever the same

We would stand in the wind
We were free like water
Flowing down
Under the warmth of the sun
Now it's cold and we're scared
And we've both been shaken
Hey, look at us
Man, this doesn't need to be the end

Just let me hold you while you're falling apart
Just let me hold you and we'll both fall down

Fall on me tell me everything you want me to be
Forever with you
Forever in me
Ever the same
Call on me
I'll be there for you and you'll be there for me
Forever it's you
Forever in me
Ever the same

You may need me there
To carry all your weight
But you're no burden I assure
You tide me over
With a warmth I'll not forget
But I can only give you love

Fall on me tell me everything you want me to be
Forever with you
Forever in me
Ever the same
Call on me
I'll be there for you and you'll be there for me
Forever it's you
Forever in me
Ever the same

Forever with you
Forever in me
Ever the same(Ever the same)

Nickel Creek - Lighthouse's Tale

Nickel Creek - Lighthouse's Tale LYRICS
I am a lighthouse
Worn by the weather and the waves
I keep my lamp lit
To warn the sailors on their way

I had a keeper
He helped me warn the ships at sea
We had grown closer
Til his joy meant everything to me
And he was to marry
A girl who shown with beauty and light
And they loved each other
And with me watched the sunset into night

And the waves crashing around me
The sand slips out to sea
And the winds that blow remind me
Of what has been and what can never... be...

She'd had to leave us
My keeper, he prayed for her safe return
But when the night came,
The weather to a raging storm had turned
He watched her ship fight,
But in vain against the wild and terrible wind
In me so helpless
As dashed against the rocks she met her end

And the waves crashing around me
The sand slips out to sea
And the winds that blow remind me
Of what has been and what can never... be...

Then on the next day,
My keeper found her washed up on the shore
He kissed her cold face
That they'd be together soon he swore
I saw him crying
Watched as he buried her in the sand
Then he climbed my tower
And off the edge of me he ran

And the waves crashing around me
The sand slips out to sea
And the winds that blow remind me
Of what has been and what can never... be...

I am a lighthouse
Worn by the weather and the waves
And though I'm empty
I still warn the sailors on their way

Rebekah LeBeau - Lay It On The Line

REBEKAH LEBEAU - LAY IT ON THE LINE LYRICS

oh i saw you in the distance
i thought that we would end this
but here we are again
here we are again

oh you are dancin' to the music
i thought that i was through with this
but here we are again
here we are again

i'm holdin' onto some day
wishin' there was some way
to let you go

maybe we should stop pretending
like we're gonna say goodbye this time
coz one look from you and it's over
darling it's not over
maybe it is time
to lay it on the line

so i, i tried to keep my distance
road that takes resistance
here we are again
here we are again

oh i knew that lookin' out my window
watchin' you walk out below
that we were here again
here we go again

i'm holdin' onto some day
wishin' there was some way
to let you go

maybe we should stop pretending
like we're gonna say goodbye this time
coz one look from you and it's over
darling it's not over
maybe it is time
to lay it on the line

coz every road i take
to walk away
just leads me back to you
and when i wake
oh when i dream
all i can think about
is what could be

maybe we should stop pretending
like we're gonna say goodbye this time
coz one look from you and it's over
darling it's not over
maybe it is time
to lay it on the line
to lay it on the line
to lay it on the line...

Setting: The Tattoo Parlor
Women and Tattoos
Unsurprisingly, some still do not realize that there are women who are bold enough to cross over their usual boundaries. Until now, people tend to look at women getting a tattoo with contempt. With negative connotations and unnatural boldness ascribed to tattoos, we can understand how getting one would require untapped guts for a woman. I remember being inside the tattoo parlor and constantly feeling awkward with all those scrutinizing eyes aimed at me. Being stared and glared at by many people is just a manifestation of how women and tattoos don’t exactly mesh well.

"Gendered" Tattoo
We know that tattoos are considered as symbols that can carry meaning. Power and value could also be effectively manifested through these. It was an utter disappointment when the tattoo artist told me that I should not get this particular tattoo because it is "too strong" for me.

It seems that tattoos are also "gendered". Those signifying strength are seen as ‘masculine’ while those cute arty ones are regarded as ‘feminine’. Therefore, taking this into account, we can see how distinctly stratified gender is as it defines things that are ‘masculine’ as more powerful and even holding more value.

Gender Roles

How men respect and show consideration for women in a society shows how gender roles play. At the tattoo parlor, I experienced being treated as a woman. We were offered seats and given priority. Men were very mindful of our actions.

However, it is important to note that men tend to act chivalrous. They may see it as a mere sensitive or thoughtful act but at times, it comes out as insulting and disdainful. Sometimes I even think that men probably act courteous because it makes them feel more ‘manly’ or better about themselves.

Men are naturally competitive, a trait remarkable to the two male customers bragging about their tattoos. They tend to show off their masculinity by expressing how tolerant they are to certain degrees of pain.

Women, on the other hand, are submissive and emotional beings. We are quick to show our feelings to others just like how the girl sitting beside me talked to me without hesitations. Filling in the role of a caring mother is also innate for a woman.

Gender and Social Stratification
As we observe the gender stratification that can be seen in the workplace, male domination is irrefutable nonetheless. Nowadays, the idea of women assisting men is unbridled. In this case, the tattoo artist’s girlfriend has a feeble hold of the shop. Apparently, the male tattoo artists do control the shop. But if we look closely, the female ones possess same skills that male ones have. In other words, the performance gap that emerges naturally comes from the fact that men hinder the opportunities available for women.

This leads to an unfussy question: Is being a tattoo artist a ‘masculine’ job?

Typically, if we go around and check out every tattoo parlor, it is undeniable that male tattoo artists outnumber the female ones. But it also leads to another question: If women are innately artistically-inclined, how come there are fewer female tattoo artists?

In some societies where tattoo is considered a semi-taboo, it is very unnatural for women to be involved in this kind of blemished occupation. For some, being strapped to this job can even suggest that a woman is sexually loose. Or perhaps, it is simply due to the fact that working in a tattoo shop is not really the nature of work women fits into.

Patriarchy and Sexism
Sexism is also unavoidable in this type of heterogeneous setting. The idea that men are innately superior and stronger than women is also visible. We can see how the tattoo artist treated a female customer. He initially questioned her capacity by suggesting not to be tattooed at a certain area because she will not be able to tolerate it when, in fact, I saw most of the guys with excessive tattoos on theirs.

Publicity and the "Beauty Myth"
Through mass media and even ordinary advertisements, gender stratification is also being materialized. Before, I noticed that tattoo advertisements were directed to men only. But nowadays, it seems that showing off a tattoo, particularly on the lower back, is currently a well-liked fad to women.

However, is having a tattoo considered as a feature or something that essentially surpasses the notions attached to the "beauty myth"? Certainly, we are aware of the basic standards of beauty but can we consider a woman with a tattoo appealing to men? Within the parameters of physical appearance, did it already qualify to what people currently perceive as beautiful or ‘womanly’?

The answer may be linked to the current transformation of our society. In other countries, this form of art is already accepted as an outlet of individuality, creativity, and audacity for women, with female celebrities displaying theirs shamelessly and I am confident to say that we, Filipinos, are getting there.

Looking Ahead
It is but delightful to see how the society has been transforming. The progress may be slow but still we can see how much we have changed. Our fair view on gender and the pursuit of social equality are things that we should be proud of. Towards a better future, people should value one another at the same level. If what it means to be female and male is mostly a creation of society, and the view of superiority are to be defined by both, then we can establish an equal footing for men and women in the future.

I was having second thoughts in writing this '25 Random Things' note but I was enticed by my crazy friends to share it anyway. I already did one before in Myspace... not as interesting though. So here it goes:

25 Random Things You Probably Didn't Wanna Know About Me

Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you!

1. EATING is my pastime. Guys, don’t be surprised if you found out I’m just as heavy as you are… or maybe heavier. I believe all those fats have been squeezed into my butt. LOL

2. I have this tendency to watch films and TV episodes over and over again (which annoys my mom). I think I have watched She’s The Man more than 20 times. White Chicks and The OC’s “Rainy Day Women” episode come in a close second. Ha ha!

3. One summer, I went “HOTEL-HOPPING” with my cousins for a month. We stayed in five (5) different hotels around the city. It was undeniably fun although a bit exhausting. Yay to breakfast buffets!

4. I am seriously obsessed with entertainment GOSSIP! I have a huge collection of entertainment magazines and Hollywood tabloids stacked in my room. Also, I check out PerezHilton.com and TMZ.com almost everyday. And oh, I love Harvey Levin!

5. Like a CHAMELEON, I have the ability to easily blend in any situation.

6 is my favorite number. I was born on the 6th of January, our house stands on 6 Rosas Street, my jersey number is 6, and I have a 6th sense (nonSENSE!). Ha ha!

7. I may be extremely disorganized and messy with my room but I am such a perfectionist in several other ways. For instance, wrong spellings bother me. I would go over my work many times just to make sure everything is all good.

8. Due to speaking in different languages, I have developed some SPEECH PROBLEMS. I used to have a rather excellent diction but now my tongue ends up in weird places of articulation thus producing unfavorable sounds. It is kinda sad. Ha ha!

9. My SPECIALTY chow: Bacon and Eggs! (Sorry to disappoint some of you BUT I can't cook… I would love to learn how to, though)

10. Fortune telling, tarot card reading, and palm reading warned me of my incredibly AMBITIOUS nature. According to the fortune tellers and card readers, they see me as someone who is fascinated with flying all over the world. And it seems that my love life will stay bleak (as in!) until those dreams have been fulfilled. I hope not ‘coz they’re limitless. Hehe.

11. People who can keep up with my craziness amuse me. I find it rare for someone to just jump on the bandwagon and make things go crazier than ever.

12. I may have a talent in hiding my anger but some people told me that it can be a little obvious through my JAW. I clench my jaw, apparently.

13. I am a DREAMER. I dream every single day and I can remember everything which is a bit remarkable. I used to keep a dream journal but I got tired eventually. I also have this rare ability of continuing interrupted dreams. Lucid dreams are not unusual for me too.

14. I love BLABBING. I could talk about anything under the sun anytime, anywhere, and with anyone. At times, it may be bordering on irritating people. Ha ha!

15. I adore KIDS sooooo much! I love meeting (and stalking) kids everywhere. If kidnapping wasn't illegal, I would have stolen hundreds of babies and create my own "Baby Paradise." LOL

16. I have several NICKNAMES (solely based on my first name): "Daveva," "Danny," "Danita," "Dana Bandana," "Dana-chan," "Dana Banana," "Danababes/Danabebs," "Dance," “Dan,” “Diva," "Danapot," “Danakins,” "Dana Baby," "Duh-nuh,” “D' Naïve," "Dee," and "Dabebs".

17. According to my nutty guy friends, I deserve an AWARD for having the hottest and cutest girl friends in school…which is ridiculously hilarious! They used to uncontrollably drool whenever I bring my friends over to our hangout spot.

18. Some people may find it boring but I love watching football games live and on TV (especially in pubs). VAMOS BARÇA!!! FC Barcelona is my team!

19. I am a SPORTS aficionado. I play football, basketball, table tennis, badminton, and even extreme sports such as skateboarding and sports climbing. I am also a frustrated equestrienne. Ha ha!

20. I used to have great ATTENTION SPAN and FOCUS. However, I noticed that I have suddenly transformed into a horrible person who can’t stay still and listen to one person for a long period of time. It’s terrible, I know. Hehe.

21. Some people may not know but I love ART. I used to join contests but now I just doodle on my Japanese books and calligraphy paper. I plan to start charcoal painting again... soon.

22. In relation to #21: A PAINTING of mine, made when I was around 13 years old, was displayed and sold at a museum.

23. Whenever I’m excited or nervous, my STOMACH hurts. I wonder why…

24. I am SCARED of: creepy underwater entangling plants, roller coasters with gigantic loops (it’s lame, I know), food shortage, getting out of control, and weird gas masks (no kidding!). I will definitely run and hide if I happen to see someone sporting a gas mask.

25. I could say that I have a GENUINE relationship with every special person in my life. I share a different secret with each one (winks). I love you guys! :D
